Gilmore Girls is one of those great shows you can catch on TV late at night, and you expect it to be on when nothing else is. It is packed full of humor that almost anyone can relate to, and includes problems that real people can actually understand. Rather than watching some crazy soap opera with twisted story lines, Gilmore Girls brings out the humor in everyday live even just by sitting in a coffee shop and chatting with friends.

The Gilmore Girls premiered October 5, 2000 and never looked back. This quirky view on life through the eyes of Lorelai Gilmore and her daughter Rory is television drama at its finest. We laugh with them, we cry with them. We enjoy the witty pop culture references that spout at lightning speed from the mouths of the characters, while we wish that we could be so witty in real life. We wish we were part of the family with Lorelai and Rory, so we could eat pop tarts and mallomars for dinner without feeling guilty. Gilmore Girls lasted for seven seasons, and ended all too soon when they lost their creator, Amy Sherman, to another project. The last episode aired on May 15, 2007.

The Gilmore Girls follows the lives of Lorelai Gilmore and her daughter, Rory. Lorelai got pregnant in high school and moved out of her wealthy parents' home to raise her child. She worked at an inn as Rory grew up, and eventually became the manager.

Lorelai is unlucky in love... she never really gets over Rory's father, who pops up throughout the series, yet no one else seems right for her, except for Luke, who owns the local diner.

While we root for Lorelai and Luke to get together, Rory is growing up through high school and then enters Yale. Rory is very close to her grandparents, even though her mother suffers through every Friday night dinner like it is a visit to the dentist. We experience her first love, Dean, her first heartbreak, Jess, and her first grownup relationship with Logan. Her best friends, Lane and Paris are always around somewhere, caught up in the throes of their own lives.

Surrounding Lorelai and Rory are the slightly deranged population of Stars Hollow. Kirk pops up everywhere, doing yet another job as only he can do it. Sookie, Lorelai's best friend is an accident-prone chef. Eventually, Sookie, Lorelai and Michel, another inn employee, buy their own inn and run it successfully. Taylor, the town mayor, makes up his own rules for everything in town. Miss Patty and Babette are the town gossips... they pop up on street corners like a Greek chorus discussing the events in the lives of the townspeople.

Lorelai Gilmore is played with wit and style by Lauren Graham. Her daughter, Rory is played expertly by Alexis Bledel. Luke Danes, the owner of the local diner and one of Lorelai's best friends, is played by Scott Patterson. Michel Gerard, a Frenchman who works at the inn with Lorelai is played with snobby charm by Yanic Truesdale. Lorelai's upper class parents, Emily and Richard Gilmore, are played to perfection by Kelly Bishop and Edward Herrmann. Sookie St. James, the kooky chef who is one of Lorelai's best friends is portrayed by Melissa McCarthy. Rory's best friend from Stars Hollow, Lane, is played by Keiko Agena. Kirk Gleason, Stars Hollow's jack of all trades is played to annoying perfection by Sean Gunn. Paris, Rory's friend from Chilton, is portrayed by Liza Weil. Babette is played with backwoods good humor by Sally Struthers. Miss Patty, the theatrical has-been, is played dramatically by Liz Torres. There are also many smaller characters that appear in several episodes.
