You need some time to understand and visit London. Hard to say how much time. Some cities accepted me fast, other much more difficult. I can’t name the reasons.
London accepted and swallowed me very fast, in 4 days (personal record). But for that I filled the following necessary steps, which I am recommending to you now, as you can do them cheap or free:
1. Catch and make photographies of the well known citymarks: Palace of Westminster and Big Ben; Westminster Abbey; St. Margaret’s Church; Tower bridge; Tower of London.

2. Visit the Royal Botanical Garden in Kew, which is superb and huge. Besides very many plants (it is one of the leading Botanical Gardens in the world) you can see many exotic ore old constructions (pagoda, Japanese house, etc)
3. Greenwich Observatory, which sets the time worldwide.

4. Visit one of the London’s famous parks: Hyde Park and Richmond Park
5. Try the London Stock Exchange investing wisely and maybe you will be richer

6. A visit to the British Museum is a must do and it is also one of the free things to do in London (except special collections) and absolutely fascinating. You can find old history artifacts and art masterpieces.

7. Take part in a concert, no matter what or what kind at Royal Albert Hall or O2 Dome.

8. Go to Wembley Stadium, the temple of football, the world’s most expensive stadium, if you are a football fan (as the most of Londoners) , or Twickenham Stadium, if you are a rugby fan.

London is a great city and I’m sure you will enjoy your stay there 100%.

Thank you for the “tour guide” through London. It is always so interesting to see a site through the eyes of another person. I love all travel “tours”, so thank you for taking the time to post this.

For more sports…see Wimbledon (for tennis fans) and Lords for cricket fans. Both have pretty decent museums if if there isn’t play there at the time.
Also numbers of the major museums are free if London.

I love London but for some reasons I haven’t been there for ages and I know next time I’ll have to visit as for the first time ! I know it has changed at least as much as Paris did.
You know, I was going to stay in London… when I stopped in Paris !

Hello there,
As a Londoner for 8 years now, I feel obliged to give more tips for you next London visit. I will also look at the Tate Modern (free entrance) by the London Bridge where you can see some original modern art and get a nice picture of the impressive building. If you want a quicl lunch, I would also pay a visit to the greatest Borough Market where you can have some nice focaccia with cured ham / chorizo, rocket, fresh ripe tomato and parmigiano. Borough Market is one of the most favourite free attraction in London. So better to go early on the Saturday morning to avoid the crowd.

If you want to do more free things in London, I suggest you take a look at the Piccadilly Circus. You can get there via bus number 9. Also don’t miss Kensington Palace, it was the home of Princess Diana (:() At the main road, which is Kensington High Street, turn left. Board the number 49 bus (a single decker hopper bus) and take it along Gloucester Road to the junction with Cromwell Road (only a few stops away). These are one of the few free/very cheap things to do in London, trust me

I’m glad I stumbled across this site. I went to London recently and I went to the British museum. And yes, it really was one of the free things to do in London. I can’t say about the others, but the British museum was definitely free.

Finally found somethings useful. On all other sites there is just fucking non-sense text like: “Our guides list free, fun & 100 best and top 100 things to do in many of America’s favorite cities. Looking for the free Free 100 Things to do in London England or best Free Things to do in London? Sign up now for your fun Things to do in London account to help you organize your life and achieve Things to do in London. Meanwhile, click through to our free printable What to do in London! lalalala” and absolutely no fucking tips. But your’s is ok, I guess.
